Internet, folk, and otaku holidays

Post by cidoku »

There really is a day for everything. I want you to think about your hobbies and media you enjoy and research if there are days that celebrate and honor your interests, important people or shows you like. Bonus points if you can find the history behind the holiday!

I'll start with some of my own, but I'll leave the ones most relevant to this forum for you to find:
* February 1 is Pretty Cure day, commemorating the day Futari Wa Pretty Cure, the first season of the franchise, first aired in 2004.
* February 4 is Puyo Puyo day because the numbers in the date 2/4 can be read as "pu" and "yo" in Japanese (a case of goroawase).
* March 14 is International Day of Mathematics because the date 3/14 has the first three digits of pi. March 14 is more commonly known as Pi Day, but all of mathematics is celebrated that day.
* International Astrology Day is observed on either March 20 or March 21, whenever the March equinox occurs that year, because that event marks the start of the astrological year, that is, when the Sun enters the first degree of Aries.

Maybe every day is worth celebrating. What else can you find? :TaigaSalute:

Oh, cool. I have the same birthday as peak.

Here are my days to remember:

February 7, 1889 — Jonathan Joestar's death.
May 13, 1973 — The final episode of Ashita no Joe was published.
May 6, 2021 — Kentaro Miura's death.

And the last one:

March 2, 2018 — Billy Herrington's death.

To not end on such a sad note, I'd also like to remember April 25, 2008, the day Science Adventure was born, and August 4, 2025, as the day the best forum on the net was made.

July 7th is Rena Ryuugu day, and it's periodically celebrated on 4chan though it seems to have declined in relevance since it's apex on 07/07/2007. It's mentioned that there was a lot of Rena spam on /a/ this day on third party sites, but I've been unable to find actual screencaps of the event. That said she's generally got a lot of sevens in her background, from being the mascot of 07th Expansion, to being born on 07/1967.

I did a little digging and it seems that her birthday is actually on July 28th, but I have no idea what the source on this is and can't find any first hand evidence of it being stated. If anyone knows where let me know, though that would be funny because it would mean her birthday is on the same day as another important day for us; Steins;Gate day, the fateful one in which Okabe first visits the Radio building.
