I'm begging to get some chapters so we can put the demo in itch.io, or someplace like that.

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
To quote Eminem, here's my ten cents, my two cents is free. I've been trying to nail down the central concept before anything else, as that's going to determine where we go creatively from here. What I've discussed with May is something like this:
The Deluoode VN takes place in a sort of humorous, anthropomorphized version of the web (specifically for us, the small web) where Deluoode is a city in which Del-chan lives. This would allow us to make lots of humorous, thinly veiled commentary on the state of things on the web, representing other sites/SNS as nations/cities/companies etc. May already mentioned my straw page bit. Might be an american phenomenon, but I think of straw pages as the vape shops of the internet. There's a shit ton of them for no reason, they're all the same, they're hideous both inside and out, and i never see anyone going in or out of them.
If we're cool with this, we can move forward from here. I think maybe having a sort of episodic plot like some others have suggested would be a good idea. As for how users would be represented, we could either be depicted as denizens of the city, with our own businesses/operations etc, or sort of exist on a higher plane as godlike figures that sometimes appear to the "worthy" (lol). I don't think we should get too heavy-handed with user appearances. I'd rather have them mostly be referenced as asides or something like that. I am not opposed to real cameos at all, but I don't want them to dominate the narrative.
Sort of like what I started to do in the C;H Hurt/Heal thread, we could depict forum events or other things on the web as real happenings in Deluoodeworld. For example, talking about the new "roulette" challenge that retards are doing where they attempt suicide for no reason. The S;G H/H thread could be depicted as a civil war that engulfed the entire city (as it remains the longest thread on the board currently), or an election that went horribly wrong.
We can also make witty remarks about the state of other forums, e.g. "They say the city up north, Yeast's Lair, has really gone down the tubes since the new mayor took over."
That's my thought process so far. What do we think?

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
Added some engine colour palette effects as suggested by @dokyun. There is Gameboy, Monochrome, and Sepia. In scripts you can change the effect by doing:
Code: Select all
@palette sepia
character_name: I'm having a very nostalgic moment
@palette normal
character_name: Okay, I'm back to normal now
Amazing new additions! You're a pro! I might have to commission you for another game dev project I'm working on here pretty soon hahaha.Blond wrote: Sat Oct 31, 2026 8:48 amI'm begging to get some chapters so we can put the demo in itch.io, or someplace like that.

These ideas are an amazing starting point. I already have the gears turning for plot ideas! I'm more leaning towards that users should be denizens of the city, but as the webmaster maybe @Maypews can be a god-like figure haha. Definitely shouldn't dominate the narrative at all. I think focus should be on Del, Org, and any other original characters we come up with with only occasional appearances from both sciadv characters and Deluoode users. Love the roulette idea - would be funny if it was on the news in The Base or something. Loving it all so far!NonoEnjoyer wrote: Sat Oct 31, 2026 12:15 pmTo quote Eminem, here's my ten cents, my two cents is free. Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
I like the idea of Deluoode being a city. We'll have to put more thought into it, but I think this should do fine as a placeholder:

As for making references to the users, I think we should have them be dudes living in the city. Some have businesses, others have j*bs or they just goof around. May could be the mayor or the founder, that's for sure. I also like the idea of treating the Hurt/Heal threads as wars. You can definitely make jokes about some users being veterans, both literally and figuratively.
Here's a little map, in case we need it at some point:

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
A C visual novel engine, genius! I wish you guys have a lot of fun with the project... Stuff like this is always very awesome to work on.
(I also hope you made the engine really portable so I can run it everywhere)

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
This is some lovely stuff, I've always wanted to develop something game-related that isn't just modding stuff and I really love these collaborative forum projects. Since everyone's already mentioned the plot and the music I'll add that the UI fits pretty well for the game, it's simple but cozy in its own futuristic way. I'm a bit busy at the moment but I could try to write some stuff soon, no music or coding though because I still have no idea about how to use FL Studio.

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
I’m at work and can’t work on anything outside my internal monologue, so I wanted to talk about how Del-Chan should be written. I haven’t read through all of her genesis in the mascot thread, but I also doubt it was ever a serious consideration that she would play a starring role in any kind of story.
If I write for this in any capacity it’ll be from be first person, with Del-Chan narrating. I want to sort of pin down the cornerstones of her character. I’m assuming we want her to be an embodiment of the board and our culture, but she also needs to be distinct enough from some of our favorites like Takumi and Frau.
Del-Chan should obviously be a degenerate. To what degree I’m not sure. Not quite as outspokenly freaky as Frau.
She should also be very opinionated, at least on the inside. She should have opinions about things she knows nothing about for sure.
I think she should also complain about people’s work ethics, while simultaneously being a Rotter herself.
Do we want her to have some kind of serious character arc? If so, I’m open to ideas. She should definitely be the “idc what you think about shit as long as you’re not a faget about it” sort of person.
What sorts of language should she use? Obviously lots of netslang, but like I think it’d be funny if she just called shit gay all the time, or called people “fagets” when she’s poasting.
Please provide input. I’d put more myself but typing on this phone is tiring!

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
I think it was established that Del-chan is a hardcore fujoshi but also doesn't know what sex is. She probably also talks in a lot of 2000s netspeak, a lot of "l33t", "pwned", "n00b", "w00t" etc. Basically like that dude from Pure Pwnage. Putz Z's on the end of wordz. She definitely calls stuff "the bomb dot com" all the time.
About character arcs, I think stealing the wordline gimmick basically gives us the freedom to do whatever. Since it's probably going to be an episodic game with people writing different stories, it's pretty much a free cheat code.

Re: Deluoode: The Visual Novel
You're on the right track. Del is definitely one of those otakus who really values taste and calls people plebs. She definitely has a MAL account with over 1000 animes. To summarize , she's Watamote if she went to /g/, with some traits of Science Adventure characters and a little bit of Metal Gear references thrown in. Oh, and she's a fujoshi too. Can't forget that.
I like that she calls people fagets, she would definitely say that LMAO. Wish we could put a similar interaction to this:
