Hi there! Call me Amlux. I'm pleased to make everyone's acquaintance and hope to start contributing to this quality side of the web soon! I have a
personal site of my own that I spend a lot of time working on and hopefully aim to turn into more of a communal space as well.
What makes SciADV special to you and what's your favourite entry?
I've read the original
Chaos;Head and
Steins;Gate. I do eventually want to read the follow-up series as well, though nowadays I read VNs in untranslated Japanese which means it takes me a lot longer to get through them, despite it being a more quality experience overall ^^;
I like these stories overall because they strike a perfect balance of a lot of things to me: philosophical depth, emotional pathos, real quality humor (I laughed out loud through so much of
S;G especially), and everything unique and special about the particular era that was 2000s Akiba culture (right on the tail-end of it, I guess). I love science fiction in general because at its best it is the most philosophical of genres.
What's are your favourite pieces of non-SciADV otaku media? (can be other visual novels, anime, manga, jrpgs, etc.)
Too many to count! But I do love visual novels, and some of my other favorites are
Subarashiki Hibi,
Cross Channel,
Ever17 -the out of infinity-,
Symphonic Rain, and
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (I'm still in the midst of reading that last one, but I'm on the last chapter now!)
I'm also a big
Touhou Project fan and my current top 10 characters are Sanae, Suwako, Reimu, Kaguya, Yuyuko, Kanako, Patchouli, Byakuren, Kogasa, and Remilia. My favorite games are
Shoot the Bullet,
Double Spoiler, and
Great Fairy Wars, but I love all the classic run of 6-12. I'm currently trying to get a Lunatic 1cc in
Undefined Fantastic Object and it's kicking my ass.
Also I love miko (shrine maidens) to an unhealthy degree.
How'd you find this forum?
I was invited by a close friend who is already a member!
What's your opinion on cyberspace as it is now?
I don't like to be fatalistic about it. Does "the internet" at large now suck? Sure, but it's not like we have to be a part of it. There are a lot of worrying trends about censorship and so on, but for the most part we should just carve out our own space and ignore large social media websites. One of the best ways to do that is having a forum like this. I've always loved forums like this and often felt somewhat orphaned without one to call home. I have to support anyone operating a forum.
What are some of your foremost hobbies?
Video games, reading, writing, drawing, studying Japanese, spirituality, cinema, music, and updating my website (in the interest of becoming increasingly more and more self-hosted).
Never feels like I have time for all of them these days!
