SciADV Artbook Collection

Post by Maypews »

Hello observers, I come to you all today with a very special topic. If you've ever looked around online on places such as booru sites and the like, you've probably seen these sorts of ultra HD renders containing art that's not present in the source material.

Image

These illustrations are most often found in art books. Art books are essentially these very large books that contain unique illustrations, character designs, rough sketches/concept art, and sometimes even world lore and production information. SciADV as well as a lot of other franchises have many of these. On the Western net you'll often see illustrations from them that aren't sourced and kind of just start to circulate around without people knowing where they came from. But in fact there are actually more things like it available in the source material that you probably haven't seen before!

As such, with the help of @capstasher's Webdex, I have shared all of the artbooks that I was able to find online pertaining to the series. To log in and download the files, use the username "Del-tan" and the password "Gateway;Pages26". There may be more out there, and if you know of them please do let me know. But as of now, these are all the ones I was able to locate;

Chaos;Head Artbooks
Chaos;Head Noah Visual Collection [2009, small artbook that released with Xbox 360 limited edition of NOAH]
Capture Materials & Guest Illustrations [2009, features guest illustrations of the characters from prominent third party artists]
Chaos;Head Complete Art Book [2011]
Chaos;Head Dual Official Design Works [2014, released with the PS Vita limited edition known as Chaos;Head Dual]

Steins;Gate Artbooks
Steins; Gate Official Material Book [2010, don't have this one but it's supposedly inferior to the 2011 artbook]
Steins;Gate Visual Works [2011, released at Comiket 78 by Huke and contains 32 pages of illustrations]
Steins;Gate Illustrations Collection [2011]
Huke Selected Works [2012. not a S;G artbook but rather a personal artist book but about 50% of it is S;G illustrations]
Steins;Gate Visual Works 2 [2014, was sold at Comiket 83 at the official 5pb booth]

Robotics;Notes Artbooks
ROBOTICS;NOTES Official Material Guide Childhood Dreams [2012]
ROBOTICS;NOTES OFFICIAL GUIDE BOOK [2013, this is more for the anime and largely just contains screencaps but figured I'd include it anyway]

Chaos;Child Artbooks
Chaos;Child Official Document: Here Without You [2015, C;C might only have one book but lots of cool stuff I hadn't seen before in this]

Miscellaneous
Nitroplus Art Masters [2016, contains illustration from a variety of Nitroplus IPs which includes some of Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate]

As of now this is all that I have been able to find, let me know if I'm missing any and most of all enjoy the art!

Terrible tragedy that Occultic;Nine and Anonymous;Code never seem to have gotten artbooks. It would have been amazing to see more materials for those two. Alas, such is the way of the Mages.

Thank you very much for tracking these down May! I have never seen a lot of the illustrations here before! I'm certain I can't be the only one here in that position. :GoodWork:

A;C supposedly has an artbook on the Steam page called "ANONYMOUS;CODE - A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO EARTH SIMULATOR". I was unable to find a rip of it, and I am unsure if it contains original illustrations (which is what I assume most of us are here for since the text is in Japanese) because the description is rather vague;

"ANONYMOUS;CODE Interactive Digital Artbook: "A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO EARTH SIMULATOR"
You can enjoy the interactive contents of this digital artbook by listening to character voices and BGM as you flip through the pages and zoom into the artwork. "

Nonetheless this one is quite accessible it seems since you can buy it digitially. So if anyone owns it on Steam and would like to contribute it to the collection let me know! Unfortunately though I couldn't find anything for O;9.

A few of the CTRL have it on Steam but it seems to actually be interactive, like, you click on buttons to go to specific sections for each character. See: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2459 ... SIMULATOR/

Man, I can’t wait for someone to translate the artbooks. I want to know what the thought process behind the saga was, especially on how they did the designs.

The A;C thing isn't really an artbook, I've played through it. It's more of a lorebook if anything? It may have some art incidentally, don't recall.

Translating the art books seems like a ton of work, depending on the one. I wonder if any art books for vns/anime stuff with serious amounts of text have had fan translations. I could see if it was minimal, but this is outside of my knowledge area. You'd think sci;adv would be a prime candidate though.

Well I wasn't making a definitive statement or anything, just that I was personally unaware. Looking it up a bit it seems some VNs have had their art books at least partially translated, like the character profiles and potentially short stories. Mostly I had in mind like some of Dies Irae / KKK and related's art books have many pages of dense text. Or like the Science Adventure Series Maniacs book, which is pretty text heavy (though maybe that doesn't qualify as an art book exactly).

So rethinking it I could be wrong on the difficulty for regular art books :Sob:

The only one of these I've looked at is Huke Selected Works, as I happen to own a copy.

I have it, yeah. Like Erin was saying, while there is art in it (and it's mostly scenery), it's mainly a kind of player's guide to A;C than anything else. Wish more fans would read it tbh, I'd say it's important to read it before going through A;C itself, and if more people did the questions everyone asks about Anon being a kind of character or supposed to be player themselves would be answered as the guide makes it clear that YOU are the "Anon" observing Pollon and all the games are canonically supposed to be observation terminals into certain points in the simulation.
